They had to survive for seven days in a forest full of demons. Only four challengers made it out alive.  They meet some people who work for the demon slayer corps, an organization that has been hunting demons for a long time. They give them new clothes, swords and birds that can talk and deliver messages . Tanjiro has to choose the metal for his sword from a pile of rocks. Demon Slayer Season 1, Episode 2 : Kimetsu no Yaiba

Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are traveling to a mountain where they can meet a man who can teach them how to fight demons. Nezuko is a demon herself, However she still loves her brother and tries to control her hunger for human blood.

One night, they find a temple where they think they can rest. However inside the temple, there is a scary demon who has killed many people and eaten them. 

Tanjiro smells the blood and tries to stop the demon with his axe, However the demon is too fast and strong. He grabs Tanjiro and is about to kill him.

Nezuko sees this and runs to save her brother. She kicks the demon’s head off with her powerful leg. 

The demon’s head is still alive and tries to bite Nezuko, However she bites back and breaks his teeth. The demon’s body also attacks them, However Tanjiro cuts it with his axe.

Suddenly, another man appears. He is wearing a mask and has a sword. He tells Tanjiro that he is Sakonji Urokodaki, the man they are looking for. He says that he will train Tanjiro to become a Demon Slayer, a warrior who fights against demons. He also says that he will help Nezuko stay human by giving her a special bamboo muzzle that will stop her from biting people.

Tanjiro and Nezuko are happy to meet him and follow him to his house on the mountain. There, he tells them that they have to pass a test before they can join the Demon Slayer Corps, an organization that has been hunting down demons for a long time. The test is to survive for seven days in a forest full of demons.

Tanjiro agrees to take the test and leaves Nezuko with Urokodaki. He enters the forest with his axe and his courage, hoping to become stronger and find a way to turn his sister back into a human.
